ASHLAND, OR, February 10, 2011 /Stanford Who's Who/ -- Joanne Widness has been accepted among the prestigious ranks of Stanford Who's Who as a result of her remarkable professional career. As Owner of Chilly Dog for the past 14 years, Joanne has routinely exhibited the passion, vision and dedication necessary to be successful in the business world.
Chilly Dog is a company born of Joanne's experimentation to create the perfect bed for her dog Maggie. In 1977, she realized that there had to be a better design for a dog bed as opposed to the traditional style that was in the market place at the time. Joanne spent several hours perfecting the ultimate snuggle bed for Maggie, finally coming up with something that is like a sleeping bag with a built-in pillow and a nylon rod shaped in a ring to keep the bed open for crawling inside.
Chilly Dog snuggle beds now come in the form of a dog bed, cat bed or a travel pet bed. The beds are designed as washable, warm and portable pet beds with a built-in blanket. They come in polar fleece and polyester fur, in three sizes and multiple colors. The nylon rod comes apart and slips out. The Velcro fasteners open for easy pillow removal. The bed and pillow can be machine washed and dried.
Prior to starting the company, Joanne spent 33 years as a teacher, the last 23 of which were at what is now known as Southern Oregon University where she was an associate professor of physical education working with major students, supervising student teachers and teaching various service classes. She also coached the women's volleyball team for 18 years and the tennis team for 13 years, with both teams earning conference, northwest and national rankings.
