During her collegiate career, Capra earned her Registered Nursing degree from Lamar University in 1986. She is a member of the is a member of the Infusion Nurses Society, National Association for Practical Nurse Education and Services, and the Council of Practical Nurse Educators . Capra has served on the Nurse Council of the Texas Health Care Association.
